As a
contemporary plein air painter I invite you to share my
perceptions and interpretations in my work inspired by painting
on location. In the past, on location oil "sketches" were the
basis from which completed studio paintings were derived. In
plein air painting such sketches are often the basis for an
enlarged version but not necessarily more finished piece. In
today's art climate they are a desired art form in which any
further "finishing" is done by the viewer. It is that process
that enlivens the piece and makes it more exciting to me. Some
work is more representational than others but none are
illustrative.
Art is a gift to both artist and
patron. Great art is a timeless gift of humanity to humanity. It
is present in all cultures throughout history. The hope of
creating something timeless is what drives me to paint often,
but the joy of painting is what motivates me to paint in the
first place. I have developed my own unique use of complimentary
colors and light with stylized palette knife and loose brush
work contrasts and bold accents. My landscapes are a celebration
of a diverse ecology and fragile ecosystem that work to preserve
nature in the minds and hearts of the viewer.
